How to Prepare Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls

  1. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat a frying pan over medium heat.
    • Cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart minimally, for about 5 to 7 minutes.
    • Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir gently and then remove the beef from the pan.
  2. Cook the Vegetables:
    • In the same pan, melt the butter.
    • Add the diced onion and bell pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until they are browned, about 5 to 7 minutes.
    • Return the beef mixture to the pan and combine well. Let the filling cool while preparing the egg roll wrappers.
  3. Assemble the Egg Rolls:
    • Place the egg roll wrappers on a flat surface.
    • Place half a slice of American cheese on each wrapper.
    • Spoon about 3 tablespoons of the beef mixture onto each wrapper.
    • Fold the bottom left corner over the filling, then fold in the two sides. Wet the edges with a little water and roll tightly to seal.
  4. Fry the Egg Rolls:
    • Heat 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
    • Fry 3 to 4 egg rolls at a time until they are golden brown, about 3 to 4 minutes per batch.
    • Remove the egg rolls and drain on paper towels. Repeat with the remaining egg rolls.

Tips for Delicious Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls

  • Steak Options: You can use ribeye or flank steak instead of ground beef. Slice the steak into small pieces for easy eating.
  • Cheese Varieties: Feel free to substitute American cheese with provolone, Swiss, or pepper jack for added flavor.
  • Vegetables: Use a mix of colorful bell peppers, like red, yellow, or orange, and consider red onions for extra sweetness.
  • Wrappers: Follow the package instructions for wrapping egg rolls. Seal the edges with a bit of water to ensure they stay closed while frying.
  • Dipping Sauces: Serve with a variety of dipping sauces such as cheese sauce, ranch dressing, horseradish sauce, or BBQ sauce for extra flavor.
