“Everly, it’s not about Maya anymore. It’s about Her. She is innocent in all of this. And she has no one but us” –Scott finally said.
I asked him about Ella’s father, but he interrupted me, refusing to say anything else.
A couple of weeks later, curiosity led me to Scott’s studio while he was away working. I discovered a photograph on his desk that contradicted everything he had told me before. It was a photo of Scott, seemingly happy and close with a pregnant woman, potentially Maya.
When Scott walked into the house that afternoon, his smile faded as he noticed my stern expression. “Everly, what’s wrong?” he asked in a worried voice.
I held up the photo, my voice firm but cold. “Explain this to me, Scott. And this time I want the truth. You told me that you and your sister were estranged. But this photo tells me otherwise.”
Scott’s attempt to dismiss the photo only fueled my frustration.
