The Special Role of Grandparents
Grandparents fill a unique role, providing unconditional love, knowledge, and a unique perspective. They offer emotional support, instruction, and act as role models for their grandkids. They are always willing to provide a helpful hand and listen. Having grandparents means having friends who will never turn their back on us.
A Grandmother’s Story
One grandma told the story of her grandson, Simon, with whom she was extremely close. They spent many days together, Simon assisting around the house and listening to her stories. However, as Simon became older, their friendship evolved. He gradually stopped visiting and then stopped calling. The grandma, perplexed and hurt, convinced herself that Simon was simply busy with friends.
The Confrontation
One day, the grandma paid a visit to her daughter and grandson at their house. Simon disregarded her and acted as if she didn’t exist. His mother, appalled by his disrespect, chastised him. Simon’s aggressive answer astounded everyone. He screamed, “She’s the only grandmother I know who doesn’t give presents!” All of my friends’ grandmothers spoil them. I have never received anything from her!”
