– 1 box of your favorite chocolate cake mix (and required ingredients such as eggs, oil, and water)
– 1 cup of vanilla frosting
– 24 Oreo cookies
– 24 brown M&Ms or any small round chocolate candy
– 12 orange gummy candies (like slices or small wedges for the beaks)
– White fondant or marshmallow fluff (for the white bellies)
– 48 mini chocolate chips (for the eyes)
Directions
1. Bake the cupcakes according to the chocolate cake mix instructions, letting them cool completely before decorating.
2. Carefully twist open the Oreo cookies and scrape off (and eat, shh!) the cream filling. These cookie halves will serve as the penguin’s wings.
3. Roll out small ovals of white fondant or strategically place marshmallow fluff in the center of each cooled cupcake to create the penguin’s white belly.
4. Spread a thin layer of vanilla frosting on top of the cupcake, just enough to hold your decorations in place.
5. Plant the Oreo wings on either side of the white belly, and plop a brown M&M in the center for the penguin’s head.
6. Use the orange gummy candies to fashion little triangle beaks, nestling them right above the M&M.
7. Finally, give your penguin eyes by pressing mini chocolate chips into the frosting above the beak, tip facing in, to mimic those endearing penguin peepers.
